White people especially those supposedly who are well educated and in high profile positions simply do not get it. These remarrks of Imus' are negative and powerful and they exacerbate racial tensions and low self esteem.

You would think that the comments made by Mike Richards as a stand up comedian would have given any non caucasian of intellegience pause to think twice before they verbally followed in his footsteps. HMMMMMM, I am willing to bet that what Imus did was on purpose and that he was totally lucid at the time. His purpose for doing this was probably to increase listenership, although enough people listen to him as wellas embrace is hatred and to keep his name in the public minds and spot light

Shame on Imus, but what else would you expect from this shock jock? Isn't this why they pay him?

Why are Afro-Americans so sensitive to what caucasian say? They should raise h*** about they say about one another.

Imus said something bad and we should object to it as a society, but when is he going to finally be forgiven? Al Sharpton is relentless. People keep talking about how Imus the 'shock jock' did this on purpose for the publicity, but what about Sharpton? Almost everything Al Sharpton does is for publicity, and I think it is a sad state when Sharpton is the guy who gets to represent the best of the African American community.

Why do caucasians always feel they can say or call an African-American what African-Americans call each other. When African-American use such terms at each other, it is usually not with malice or hate. Caucasians have not earned that right. You are not African-American. Words that were used by Imus were used to because they are derrogatory, mean, racist, uncalled for, deliberate, a put down, and developed by a caucasian for that purpose.
No, the caucasian race will never understand until they become African-Americans.

What I don't understand is how can Chris Rock say what he says about african americans and people think it's really funny and he gets a nationally syndicated program and here you have a shock jock (getting paid to do what he did) and it becomes a media frenzy. I just don't get it.

Annette, being black does not give you or any other african american a 'free pass' to say whatever racist comment you want just because you share a background. No matter your color or sex, it is ignorant to think otherwise.

I have to agree with Joker here. What Imus said was terrible, it's true. In my mind it would be no less terrible if he was black. Or chinese. Or Indian. Any face you put on it, racism is racism.

First of all, I would like to address what Mr. James L. Lewis said. Please refrain from using the term "Afro-American". An Afro is a type of haristyle, not a race. However; I somewhat agree with you. "WE" should raise h*** about what "WE" say to one another, but that doesn't mean we are not entitled to be offended or upset about what others say. What Imus said was not only offensive, but it just goes to show that no matter how educated someone is, they can still be very ignorant. I can't understand for the life of me how he thought his commemt would be acceptable let alone funny! It doesn't matter the reason he said it; the point is he said it and he should had more respect for those young ladies, his listeners and himself. On the other hand "WE" need to take more responsibilty for this type of behavior. "WE" go around all day calling each other out of our name, and think that it is okay because "WE" are saying it. NO! WRONG! As Joker stated, no mattter what race/sex you are; it is unacceptable to call anyone out of their name. The sooner "WE" start to respect ourselves as a race, the sooner others will follow suit.
If you notice I used the term "WE" and not African American. The reason for this is, "WE" are not African American. We are simply Americans. Do we call Chinese people born in this country Chinese American? No, we simply address them as Americans. My point is after all these years, after all the wonderful important things the Black race has contributed to this country; we are still not fully accepted as Americans. We help build this country right along with the so called Fore-fathers. It's time everyone recoginzes that, and not just in the month of February. Wake up Black People. We descend from Kings and Queens; our forefathers sweat blood and tears for us to get ahead in a strange land where dogs were treated better than us, yet we set ourselves back each and everyday we disrespect and kill one another. Wake up Black people.

Amen VEXED...could not agree more. However, I think this entire event will cause more racism versus understanding.

FIRST, I'M A BLACK AMERICA (NOT AFRICAN) WHAT MR.IMUS SAID WAS UGLY/STUPID HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE, NO MATTER WHAT COLOR YOU ARE. AS FAR AS MR. AL SHARPTON, HE DOES NOT REPRESENT ANY BLACK PEOPLE THAT KNOW. HE IS A JOKE.

Personally, I think Imus,Sharpton and any other ignorant person, caucasian, black or plaid, should be hung by their toenails for making racist and hateful remarks. We all know idiots like that do it for publicity. And as far as the term "African American" goes I hate that term. We all know or should I infer we should know that the first human bones were found in Africa so technically we all our African Americans. I am an American plain and simple. Needless to say, I relax my hair therefore I do not have an afro! So the term Afro-American does not apply to me. To say that black people can relate does not give the hip-hop industry the right to call me, or any other black woman hoes and b****es. They are just as ignorant as the fool sitting at the radio station or the fool touting his ignorance on TV. It always goes back to the same adage...RESPECT YOURSELF! Hey, wasn't there a song titled that?!

Look at the music those basketball women listen to and go dancing to. It's offensive and derogatory to ALL WOMEN. Why take offense to a white man saying that, when they probably have the music. They aren't offended to how their music degrades them or any other women. I have black friends, my daughter has black friends. When they have been mad at someone from their own race, I've heard them say the N-word in anger. It's not always said in friendly terms between blacks. So what's the problem? I think all name calling of a person's race, religion, or sexual preference should stop.(except for pedophiles and homosexual priests that molest little boys). They should be hung. How can our kids grow up peacefully with so much anger, bitterness and hatred? The world should think about the kids watching and listening, even when you think they aren't. We, as adults need to change things for the better for our future generations.07b6c
